
Jack Benny Recreational Hockey League — 25th Anniversary Speech Good evening, everyone! Tonight, we celebrate an incredible milestone: 25 years of the Jack Benny Recreational Hockey League here in Red Deer, Alberta. For a quarter of a century, this league has brought people together through a shared love of hockey. It’s been about more than just scoring goals, making saves, and winning games. It’s been about friendship, teamwork, sportsmanship, and creating memories that last a lifetime. Over the past 25 years, players have come and gone, teams have changed, and countless games have been played. But the heart of this league has remained the same: bringing people together and keeping the spirit of recreational hockey alive in our community. A milestone like this doesn’t happen without the dedication of the players, organizers, volunteers, and everyone who has contributed along the way. Each of you has played a part in making this league what it is today. So tonight, we celebrate the past, appreciate the present, and look forward to many more years of hockey, laughter, competition, and camaraderie. 25 Anniversary Season

The Jack Benny Recreational Hockey League (JBRHL) has existed in the City of Red Deer for over 25 years and is classified as an adult recreational no-hit hockey league. The majority of players are individuals that played minor hockey growing up and just want to continue playing the game. The minimum age is 18, the majority of players are late 20's to late 30's. Each season there are 6 teams with 17 skaters and 1 goalie on each team. Players register as individuals and are placed on a team based on their responses to prompts when they register. The prompts include: position, commitment level and experience level. You are also able to list the name of one player that you'd prefer to be on the same team as, however, there is no guarantee that it will be fulfilled. The games are played at the Kinsmen Arena (Surface A & B) located in the Morrisroe subdivision of Red Deer. Each team plays 1 game per week for a total of approx. 20 regular season league games. Tuesdays game times are 9:30pm & 10:15pm. Thursdays game time is 9:45pm. Games are 1 hour in length. The regular season will begin the first week in October and double elimination play-offs take place in March.
